This feature is disable during the summer.
The following explains how this feature will operate once summer ends and the school year begins at the end of August.
Our AI is trained on decades of data. However, this data is far from complete. There are thousands of schools that we have no snow day data for.
Every prediction made has the potential to improve all future predictions. All we need is one crucial piece of information: whether or not you actually had a snow day.
You just need to press one button in the email: "Yes I had a snow day" or "No I did not have a snow day".
Predictions are based on forecast weather data provided by NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and thus are only as accurate as the forecast.
If the weather forecast is wrong, our predictions have a greater chance of being wrong. On the flip side, correct forecasts usually result in accurate predictions.
Most of the time your prediction will be displayed instantly (1-2 seconds), but sometimes it can take 8-15 seconds for the results to appear. These longer predictions occur when we receive new weather data and recompute the percentages. Long predictions will only be seen by one user per zip code per hour.
For every prediction made the AI must run millions of calculations. While each calculation costs very little, they start to build up. Any money contributed will be used to keep the servers running and to upgrade the website performance.
